Care Home Extension
For many years Cameron Butcher, like other builders cut our teeth building extensions for a variety of clients in both the domestic and commercial sectors. Although we don’t really get involved with domestic work these days, along with new builds and M&E projects, a lot of our work includes building extensions for the commercial, industrial, and public sectors.
We recently tendered for and won the contract to build a care home extension to an existing and live psychiatric care home right in the heart of Birmingham. The nature of the care provided presented a number of challenges in setting up the site as the residents needed to have access to the gardens at all times. This ordinarily wouldn't have been a problem, but it was necessary to cordon off part of the garden to enable us to set aside a safe working area to carry out the building work.
Once the site hoarding was in situ and we were satisfied that the residents had a safe environment to wonder and enjoy, it was time to start work; well not entirely, as before we could put a shovel in the ground, there was the small matter of removing a 60-foot high tree along with its extensive root system that once removed we estimated would weigh over a ton.
