Care Home Contractors in the West Midlands
As Birmingham Builders we get involved with all manor of projects and over the years we’ve built up an incredible amount of knowledge and expertise in the Care Home sector. Care Homes like Schools present certain challenges which make many builders turn and look for easier options. Building any project is difficult enough especially when adding a new extension to an existing building; it throws up particular challenges when matching brickwork, windows and doors and roofing finishes. Add to that a tight work space, 60 foot tree with roots to match and an existing wall that’s ready to fall down and…well you get the picture. We we’re presented with all of these challenges on a Psychiatric Care home project we started in Birmingham recently.
The challenges of working in the Care home Sector
All building projects present their own challenges to overcome, that’s in part why we love doing what we do, they are just the normal sort of challenges that we come across on a daily basis. The real challenge as Care Home Contractors is ensuring the safety and happiness of the residence whose home we are trying to improve.
Typically there are four levels of care that we have to be mindful of:
2. Nursing Care
3. Dementia Care
4. Palliative care
Each has their own specific needs and are typically sectioned off into different areas within the nursing home. It’s important that we work closely with the Care Home manager to ensure at outset that we fully understand the requirements of the residents and the sections of the buildings they occupy adjusting our work schedule to suit.
All Cameron Butcher staff working on the Care Home Construction Team are DBS checked. DBS refers to the new agency created out of a merger between the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and The Independant Safeguarding Authority (ISA), its full title is The Disclosure and Barring Service. The checks and information provided will remain the same but will be branded DBS Checks.
We also notify the Care Quality Commission (CQC) where required to ensure they are aware of any work being carried out. The CQC is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. They make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and encourage care services to improve. They monitor, inspect and regulate services to make sure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety.
To ensure safety on site, all method statements and risk assessments are bespoke and designed in conjunction with this specific nursing home project and taking into account the needs of the residence, staff and visiting public. All site managers are SSSTS Certified and meet the most stringent of Health & Safety guidelines.
